The Lone Blogger with guest blogger Abdul Hakim-Shabazz, Radio Host WXNT
In the words of the artist: A person pushes an unadorned desk down the street for the IMA’s On Procession parade. Magnificent floats surround this, our blogger: a twelve-piece jazz-ensemble on a flatcar, a twenty-foot inflatable worm, a Chinese dragon, near-naked women painted as paintings, and the Lawn-Chair Brigade (to name only a few). Amidst the theatrical drama of the parade caravan, the lone blogger is uniquely underwhelming. On the blogger’s desk is laptop. Iconic prop and real-time tool, the laptop symbolizes the empowerment made possible by the internet. Individuals can now create, via a range of user driven platforms and technologies, news and entertainment that only a few years ago were the sole domain of established media and institutions. The contrast between the blogger and other floats draws attention to “the web’s” ability to amplify our voices.
